Sergey Vikharev

Principal Dancer

Born in St Petersburg. Graduated from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet (class of Professor Semenov) in 1980.
Joined the Mariinsky Theatre in 1980. Principal since 1986. Honoured Artist of Russia (2002).
Prize-winner at International Ballet Competitions (Varna, 1980; Moscow, 1985).

Repertoire includes: La Sylphide, Giselle, Napoli or The Fisherman and His Fiancee, The Naiad and the Fisherman, The Sleeping Beauty, Pas de Six La vivandiere, Pas de Trois in Paquita, Fokines Chopiniana, Petrouchka, Carnaval, Balanchines Symphony in С (Third Movement), The Queen of Spades and Cynics with Alia Sigalovas Independent Company. Has staged Leda and the Swan (1995), Hermitage Theatre, St. Petersburg and the ballet scenes in the opera La Gioconda (1997), Teatro Carlo Felice, Genoa.

Principal Ballet Master at the Novosibirsk Theatre of Opera and Ballet from 1999-2006, where he staged Giselle (after Perrot, Coralli and Petipa), Coppelia (reconstruction of the Mariynsky Theatre 1894 production, awarded a Golden Mask as best production), Don Quixote (after Gorsky and P), Fokines Chopiniana, Carnaval and Scheherazade and the dances in the opera Aida (directed by Dmitry Chernyakov). At the Mariynsky Theatre he has staged The Sleeping Beauty (1999, reconstruction of the 1890 production, Golden Mask jury prize), Petrouchka (2000, reconstruction of the Benois-Fokine version), La Bayadere (reconstruction of Marius Petipa 1900 version), Le reveil de Flore (2007, reconstruction of Petipa-Ivanov 1894, Golden Mask Award), Carnaval (2008, reconstruction of Bakst-Fokine 1910) and dances in the opera A Life for the Tsar (2004, directed by Dmitry Chernyakov). With the NBA Ballet (Tokyo) he has staged Fokines Scheherazade, Polovtsian Dances and Carnaval (2007). At the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Kazakhstan he has staged Fokines Chopiniana, Carnaval and Polovtsian Dances (2006).
