Kerstin Avemo got her big break with a sensational Lulu at the Gothenburg Opera in 2002. Since then she has appeared on several prominent operatic and concert stages all over Europe with a broad repertoire, ranging from Monteverdi via Mozart and Verdi to Weill. During the spring of 2007 she created the female main role of Wendla Bergmann in the premier production of Benoit Mernier’s Fruhlings Erwachen at La Monnaie in Brussels.

Kerstin Avemo has incarnated roles like Blonde in Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail, Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito, Musica and Euridice in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, Ofelia in Hamlet and Kristin in Boesmans’ Julie on stages like Oper Frankfurt, Opernhaus Zurich, La Monnaie, Wiener Festwochen, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Deutsche Oper am Rhein and The Royal Danish Theatre. Furthermore, her repertoire includes Violetta in La Traviata, Gretel in Haensel und Gretel and Juliette in Romeo et Juliette. She has worked with directors such as Luc Bondy, David Mc Vicar, Christoph Loy and Kasper Holten and under the musical direction of Kazuchi Ono, Rene Jacobs, Emanuelle Haim, Esa-Pekka Salonen and others.

During the 2007/2008 season Kerstin Avemo returned to Deutsche Oper am Rhein as Cinna in Lucio Silla, Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Oscar in Un ballo in maschera. Engagements during the 2008/2009 season included Fruhlings Erwachen in Strasbourg and Giunia in Lucio Silla in Dusseldorf. The 2009/2010 season included Gilda in Rigoletto in Weimar and Adele in Die Fledermaus with the Royal Swedish Opera, followed by Zerlina in Don Giovanni in Aix-en-Provence.

On the concert platform Kerstin Avemo has sung Britten’s Les Illuminations, Bach’s Passions, Brahms Requiem, Carmina Burana, Handel’s La Ressurrezione and Messiah, Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, Mozart’s C Minor Mass and Concert Arias and songs by Weill and Poulenc. She has appeared on stages like the Palais des Beaux Arts, Berliner Philharmonie and Theatre des Champs-Elysees.

On CD, Kerstin Avemo can be heard as Kristin in Philippe Boesmans Julie (Cypres), as Amor in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice (Naxos) and in Rene Jacobs’ interpretation of Handel’s Messiah (Harmonia Mundi). She can also be experienced on DVD in Christoph Loy’s praised production of Mozart’s Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail (Oper Frankurt).

In 2010 she made her Bolshoi Theatre debut as Zerlina (Don Giovanni, conductor Teodor Currentzis, director Dmitri Tcherniakov).
