The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre, located just 750 metres from the Bolshoi Theatre, proudly presents Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s beloved ballet The Nutcracker. This production features dancers who have performed on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre and trained at the same renowned ballet academies, ensuring a performance of exceptional refinement and artistic tradition.
In his production, choreographer Yuri Possokhov returns to the original tale by E.T.A. Hoffmann, re-examining its narrative with particular attention to its deeper meaning: the story of Marie and the enchanted Prince is not only a festive fairy tale, but also a parable of growing up, fear, and the courage required to overcome it.
Possokhov’s choreography blends classical vocabulary with rich dramatic expression, illuminating the melodic and rhythmic vitality of Tchaikovsky’s score. Polina Bakhtina’s scenography constructs a world where the familiar environment of a family home expands into realms of wonder; objects shift in scale, details come to life, and each scene exists at the boundary between reality and dream.
The Nutcracker at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre is a celebration of theatrical magic, where enchantment emerges from the precision of musical interpretation and stage movement. The ballet is ideally suited for family audiences.
