Andrei Bondarenko

Baritone

Was born in 1987 in Kamenez-Podolsky (Ukraine).
In 2009 he graduated from the National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music in Kiev (Valery Buimister`s class).
In 2005-2007 he was a soloist with the Ukraine National Philharmonic Society.

Since 2007 he has been a soloist with the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers in St Petersburg, where he debuted as Papageno in W.A. Mozart`s Die Zauberflöte.

In 2010 Andrei debuted at the Salzburg Festival, singing in Gounod`s Roméo et Juliette (opposite Anna Netrebko; directed by Bartlett Sher).
He also gave his role debut as Billy in Britten`s Billy Budd in the first ever production in Russia (Mikhailovsky Theatre, St. Petersburg, 2013).

Despite his youth, Andrei Bondarenko has already appeared at Salzburg Festival, Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Glyndebourne Festival and Touring Opera, Teatro Colon, Cologne Opera, Sydney Opera House, Perm State Opera and Mariinsky Theatre.

He has worked extensively with Valery Gergiev, Ivor Bolton, Yannik Nézet-Séguin, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Enrique Mazzola, Kirill Karabits, Andrew Litton, Teodor Currentzis, Michael Sturminger, Omer Meir Wellber and Mikhail Tatarnikov.

Highlights of 2013/14 season include Eugene Onegin in Oper Köln, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Glyndebourne Festival Opera Sao Paulo, Dallas Opera and the Mariinsky Theatre, Andrei in War and Peace in new production for the Mariinsky Theater, his solo recital debut at the Wigmore Hall accompanied by Gary Matthewman, Il Conte (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Teatro Real Madrid and Opera Australia, Robert (Iolanta) with the Gürzenich Orchestra and Dallas Opera, Marcello (La Bohème) at Bayerische Staatsoper Munich and the Opernhaus Zürich, and Rachmaninov’s Spring Cantata with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2014-2015 and beyond, his engagements include: Il Conte (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Teatro Real Madrid, Robert (Iolanta) with the Gürzenich Orchestra, Marcello (La bohème) at Bayerische Staatsoper Munich and the Opernhaus Zürich, Eugene Onegin and Robert (Iolanta) for the Dallas Opera, Belcore (L’Elisir d’Amore) for Israeli Opera, the title role in Pelléas et Mélisande at the Scotish National Opera in Glasgow, Eugene Onegin in Sao Paolo, as well as Billy Budd at the Cologne Opera as well.

In January 2017 Andrei Bondarenko made his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre, performing the role of Count Almaviva in Mozart`s Le Nozze di Figaro.

Не has recorded Don Giovanni (title role) and Nozze di Figaro (Conte) for Sony Classics, Rachmaninov songs with Iain Burnside at the Queens Hall in Edinburgh for Delphian Records as well as the Lieutenant Kijé Suite on the BIS label.

Andrei Bondarenko was a prize-winner at the 2006 International Rimsky-Korsakov vocal competition in St. Petersburg, the 2008 all-Russian Nadezhda Obukhova Young Vocalists´ Festival and Competition and the VII International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition in 2010. He won the 2011 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition Song Prize, was awarded a diploma at the Ukrainian competition “New Ukrainian Voices” and won first prize at the international vocal competition “Art in the 21st Century” in Vorzel (Ukraine).
