Biography

Graduated from Rostov Music College (as chorus conductor) and then in 1997 from the Russian Academy of Theatrical Arts, Moscow (Department of Music; Vladimir Matorin’s class). In 1995, he made his Novaya Opera debut, singing Misgir in a concert performance of Rimsky-Korsakov‘s The Snow Maiden. Since 1996, he has been a Novaya Opera soloist.

Tours

Andrey Breus tours extensively in Russia and abroad, performing at leading opera houses, such as L’Opera-Bastille, The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, Washington Opera, Los Angeles Opera, as well as at other theatres in Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Spain and the USA.
In 2002, he sang Afron at the Theatre du Chatelet, Paris, in a Mariinsky Theatre production of Rimsky-Korsakov‘s The Golden Cockerel, with L’Orchestre de Paris (conductor - Kent Nagano).

Discography

He has taken part in the following compact disc recordings: Eugene Onegin (New Opera production version, conductor Evgeny Kolobov, 2003); Masterpieces of Italian Opera (conductors Dmitry Volosnikov, Evgeny Samoylov, Valery Kritskov, 2003); a joint Novaya Opera and Savonlinna Opera Festival Chorus recording for which he sang arias from La Forza del destino and Pagliacci (conductor Kiesti Haatanen).

Awards

He was an award-winner at the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition (Vienna, 2000) and at Operalia (Los Angeles,2000), Placido Domingo’s World Opera Contest.
