Mikhail Granovsky

Conductor

Born in Moscow into a family of hereditary musicians.
From the age of nine, he appeared on stage as a member of the boys' choir of the Moscow State A.V. Sveshnikov Choral College (today the Academy of Choral Art).
In 1989, he completed his studies at the College.

In 1994, he graduated from the conducting-choral department of the Moscow State Conservatoire (Boris Tevlin's class).
In 1991, he participated as pianist in the master-classes of Professor V. Margulis in Freiburg (Germany). He later worked as pianist with singers and instrumentalists.
In the 90's, now as conductor, he participated several times in Professor Helmuth Rilling’s master-classes – at the Moscow Conservatoire and twice at the Stuttgart's Bach Academy (Germany), leading the orchestra and chorus.
In 1998, he completed his studies at the opera-symphony conducting department of the Moscow Conservatoire (Gennady Rozhdestvensky's class).

He later worked with the Ulyanovsk, Tomsk and Saratov Academic Symphony Orchestras, the Moscow Russian Philharmonia Symphony Orchestra and The Seasons, Amadeus and Hellas-Orchestra of Patras (Greece) Chamber Orchestras, as well as with the Bolshoi Theatre Chamber Orchestra.

In 2001, he joined the Bolshoi Theatre as probationer, and assisted the chief conductor with his productions of Berlioz's La Damnation de Faust (concert performance) and of the Mussorgsky's opera Khovanshchina.
Since the beginning of the 2002/03 season, he has been promoted to Bolshoi Theatre assistant-conductor. He participated in the production of Stravinsky's opera The Rake's Progress and conducted it.

Mikhail Granovsky's repertoire includes: The Snow Maiden, Mozart and Salieri, The Golden Cockerel by Rimsly-Korsakov, Iolanta by Tchaikovsky, The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and of the Maiden Fevronia by Rimsky-Korsakov, Die Fledermaus by Strauss, The Pugni's La Fille du Pharaon, Chopiniana to music by Chopin, Fantasy on the Casanova Theme to music by Mozart, Khachaturyan's Cipollino, Anyuta to music by Gavrilin, and also Drigo's The Magic Flute, Minkus' Paquita and Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker (Moscow State Academy of Choreography productions).

In December, 2005, he conducted a production of the opera The Snow Maiden for the Bashkir State Theatre of Opera and Ballet.
In the 2006/07 season, he conducted Schoenberg's monoopera Erwartung/Expectation (Karayev's version, Russian premiere, Studio for New Music Ensemble, soloist – Yekaterina Kichigina).
In 2007, he took part in IX International Festival of Dance and Music in Bangkok (Thailand). He conducted Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, Verdi's La Traviata, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9.
In 2008, he was music director of  Madama Butterfly and The Queen of Spades, and also conducted Khovanshchina at the Yekaterinburg Theatre of Opera and Ballet.
