| Fabio MastrangeloPianoFabio Mastrangelo was born in Bari (Italy). He began his piano studies under his father’s guidance at the age of 5. Mastrangelo later graduated from the Conservatorio di Musica “Niccolò Piccinni” of Bari, the Conservatoire de musique de Genève under Maria Tipo, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He has attended master-classes of Aldo Ciccolini, Seymour Lipkin, and Paul Badura-Skoda. Mastrangelo won the 1st prize at the international piano competitions of Osimo (1980) and Rome (1986).
Between 2001 and 2006, he was Artistic Director of the festival Etoiles du Chateau de Chailly (Chailly-sur-Armançon). Since 2013, Mastrangelo has held the position of Artistic Director of the St Petersburg Music Hall Theatre, as well as Principal Conductor of its two orchestras, the St Petersburg Northern Sinfonia (symphony orchestra) and the St Petersburg Northern Sinfonietta Сhamber Orchestra. His previous appointments include that of Music Director of the Yekaterinburg State Opera and Ballet Theatre, Principal Conductor of the St Petersburg Orchestra of the State Hermitage, Principal Guest Conductor of the State Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan, and Musical Advisor of the Petruzzelli Opera Theatre of Bari. In 2007, Mastrangelo started his collaboration with the Mariinsky Theatre and was its Guest Conductor for several years. In June 2008, the conductor made his debut at the Stars of the White Nights festival. At the Mariinsky Theatre, Mastrangelo conducted the production of Aida, Rigoletto, La traviata, La forza del destino, Simon Boccanegra, and I vespri siciliani.
Mastrangelo currently serves as both Principal Conductor of the Sinfonica ARTica Orchestra of the Republic of Sakha Philharmonic and Artistic Director of the Camerata Soloists Chamber Orchestra of the Novosibirsk State Philharmonic. Currently, he is also in his ninth season as Principal Guest Conductor of the Novosibirsk Academic Symphony Orchestra. In October 2015, Mastrangelo was appointed to the same position with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra Russian Philharmonic. He holds the position of Artistic Director of the festival Opera for All in St Petersburg and the Tremolo Music Festival in Tolyatti. The conductor also frequently collaborates with the Arena di Verona theatre.
In the previous seasons, Mastrangelo made his debut at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul, collaborated with the Novaya Opera theatre in Moscow, took part in the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, and conducted the performance of Aida at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.
Upcoming engagements in the 2018/2019 season include performances at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, the Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie in Este, the Janni Kirik Concert Hall in St Petersburg, the Court Theatre in the Royal Palace of Caserta, the Moscow House of Music and many other venues.
In June 2013, Mastrangelo was awarded the Ordine della Stella d'Italia, while in 2016 he was awarded the title of Honoured Artist of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Information for November 2018 | |
