11 March 2015, Wednesday

Tonight, on March 11, "Hamlet" ballet world premiere to music by Dmitry Shostakovich staged by famous tandem of choreographer Radu Poklitaru, stage director Declan Donnellan and designer Nick Ormerod takes place on The Bolshoi New stage.

Premiere performances will be held from 11 to 15 March with three different casts. The part of Prince of Denmark will be performed by Denis Savin, Vladislav Lantratov and Artem Ovcharenko. Next time the performances will be staging from 10 to 14 June.

On the occasion of the premiere the "Shakespeare. Ballet. XXI century" exposition opened at the New stage foyers. The main accent is made on the rehearsal photos of "Hamlet", but The Bolshoi has much more to remember. The exposition includes photos of severe story of Veronese lovers told by Poklitaru and Donnellan as well (their version of "Romeo and Juliet" ballet has been staged in 2003), of John Neumeier's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", which came to The Bolshoi stage in 2005, and recent world premiere of "The Taming of the Shrew" by Jean-Christophe Maillot.
