PRESS RELEASE

The BCC Group and The State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia announce the launching of the official Bolshoi Theatre Video Channel. The Channel will start working at full capacity in September 2016. Now available on the Theatre’s web-site is a test version of the Channel.

The Bolshoi Theatre Video Channel will be a unique resource making it possible to watch exclusive Bolshoi Theatre video transmissions, first nights and festivals, historic recordings of productions and marvelous artists. The Bolshoi Theatre of Russia is rightly considered to be one of the world’s leading opera houses.

The creative achievements of the Theatre’s outstanding musicians, dancers and singers, directors, scenographers arouse the unfailing interest of the public at large. Today the Theatre works at three venues – the Historic and New Stages and the Beethoven Hall, where it presents over 500 productions a year, and countless premières. Of course, only a minority of would-be audiences have the opportunity of attending these productions and concerts. The Bolshoi Theatre is constantly expanding its auditorium: it tours frequently both in Russia and abroad, organizes live ballet broadcasts at upwards of one thousand cinemas worldwide and also places videos of its productions on public internet resources. In view of the strong demand for these initiatives, the Bolshoi Theatre management took the decision to create its own video channel. In creating the Channel use was made of the BCC Group’s unique MEDIASTAGE&trade platform, which possesses a rich collection of contemporary interactive mediaservices which makes available to users maximally convenient viewing conditions and videocontent personification.

The convenient video channel catalogue is divided into twelve thematic divisions, in which are structured and gathered together relevant productions and videos: season premières, ballet, opera, concerts, news, interviews, about the Theatre, the Bolshoi Theatre in cinema, Ticket to the Bolshoi TV program, touring companies on the Bolshoi stage, International Day of Ballet and Opera Day. The video service is available in two languages – Russian and English (in the future Italian and Japanese versions are also planned).

Available now on the Bolshoi website is the test version of the service (see media.bolshoi.ru.) where one can become acquainted with its functional potential. The full version will be in operation in September.

“This project is unique in that nothing of the sort has been created before in our country”, commented BCC General Director Igor Nikiforov. “The video service for the Bolshoi Theatre was our first project in the field of interactive television to be realized for cultural institutions in our country. We highly value the opportunity given us to take part in the creation of an official video channel for one of the world’s leading theatres”.

Appearing shortly on the Bolshoi Theatre Video Channel will be a report on the press conference at which the Theatre’s plans for its 241st season were announced.
