Photo: Damir Yusupov Analysis of articles, published on July 18-20 The New York Times dance critic writes about David Hallberg and his evolution since joining the Bolshoi Ballet. Hallberg says: "The Bolshoi style is bigger and more emotional, in a way that I love," he said at the time of joining. "It has the freshness and intensity that is like what I've tried to achieve in my dance-acting roles." W omen's Wear Daily reports on a New York society dinner given in honour of David Hallberg after the opening of the Bolshoi Ballet season in New York. Hallberg says: "It's a nice moment to come back and be in New York with the Russians," he said. "Not many people have seen me dance in Moscow, so my New York audience and the dancers in the community here have been curious about what I've been doing in Moscow." One of the guests who attended the performance says: "Svetlana Zakharova is the best thing I have ever seen in my whole life." The Wall Street Journal also reports on the dinner writing "David embodies this cross-cultural bridge," said Maria Baibakova, who served as hostess at the dinner, with event co-chairs, for Lincoln Center Global. Dance T abs reviews the Bolshoi Ballet's Swan Lake in New Y ork writing "At every level, the Bolshoi dancers move with thrilling force and fullness. They're both u n m an nere d and be autif u ll y co o rd in ate d, exh ib it in g a sim plic it y and harmoniousness that makes this most unnatural art look like something they were born to do. Every dancer in the company seems to have a marvelous jump - and silent landings. And the corps is so synchronized! But Grigorovich's production of Swan Lake doesn't do them any favors". Bach tracks also reviews the opening performance writing "It was a triumph for Svetlana Zakharova, one of the best dancers I've ever seen in the dual role of Odette - Odile. She does not resort to exaggerated facial expressions; all is conveyed through her body instead. Her bourrés express more of Odette's fear than any facial expression could approximate. She is one of the very best dancers in the world right now and she is at the peak of her career." Danceviews in its review of the Bolshoi's Swan Lake writes "The Bolshoi's Grigorovich reworking is no worse, but certainly no better, than others seen in New York." Broadway World reviews the Bolshoi Opera in New York very positively writing that The Tsar's Bride is a "Heavenly Marriage with the Bolshoi Opera at Lincoln Center Festival". The BBC reports that Misha Botting the former Bolshoi ballet dancer is now a sports psychologist with sportscotland's institute of sport, working with various athletes, including Team Scotland's Rugby Sevens. The Australian newspaper reports on Barrie Kosky the artistic director of the Komische Oper in Berline saying he is also in discussion about projects with the Bolshoi and companies in China and Japan. The Montreal Gazette publishes a long interview with former Bolshoi ballerina Svetlana Lunkina who says "My Bolshoi years are very dear to me. I really value what they gave me. I never really thought about what I might lose if I left the Bolshoi. If you think like that, you'll just live in the past and nothing good will come of it. I can say in all honesty that I'm happy to be working with National Ballet of Canada". Classicalite announces that 7 productions of the Bolshoi Ballet will be broadcast in cinemas in America and Canada in 2014-2015 writing "Founded in 1776, the legendary Bolshoi Ballet is one of the most celebrated ballet companies in the world". The Los Angeles Times publishes a long article and interview about the former Bolshoi Ballet dancers Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev who are touring the world with their new show Solo for Two. The article says "the two dancers were promoted to principal dancers at the Bolshoi Ballet in 2010 and became a sensation with their bravura flash in ballets like "Don Quixote." But the two shocked the ballet world when they resigned from the company in 201 1, citing a need for more artistic freedom". The Sunday Times publishes an article about how men in ballet manage to leap so high. Starting with example of how the mighty Russian star Ivan Vasiliev produced from the often staid British audience with the Bolshoi's Don Quixote, beaming as he sailed through the air, as if nothing was easier than the impossible".
