November, 10 2014 The ensemble "Les Arts Florissants " performed at the Bolshoi Theatre The ensemble "Les Arts Florissants" provided the Bolshoi's audience with an opportunity to travel to the "gallant France" of the baroque epoch. It was founded in 1979 by its permanent director and conductor William Christie (USA), who is a harpsichordist, a musicologist and a pedagogue. He became the pioneer of the authentic performance in France and discovered many baroque masterpieces; even today, thirty five years later, this ensemble remains one of the best in the world (its name was inspired by the same-name opera of M.-A. Charpentier). Sophie Daneman, the stage director "Les Arts Florissants" carry out various projects together with Europe's best opera theatres and festivals. During the years of its existence the ensemble has recorded more than a hundred CDs together with various outstanding musicians. The 250th death anniversary of Jean-Philippe Rameau is marked in 2014. He was one of the most prominent composers of his time, a contemporary of Bach and Handel and the greatest music theoretician of his epoch. Rameau invented new ways of musical expression, that allowed him to improve the French baroque opera and ballet considerably. In the beginning of the 20th century Claude Debussy encouraged the French to appreciate Rameau, who represented the national traditions; today Rameau's pieces are performed all over the world, however, this was the first time they were performed in Moscow. The performances "Daphnis et Eglé" and "La naissance d'Osiris" to the music of Rameau were first staged 260 years ago; they were called "ballets", but naturally, these are not ballets that we are used to. The instrumental music and singing under the guise of "beau dance" come together in an unusual yet inseparable unity. T wo "ballets" to the music by Rameau were performed in Moscow as a part of the ensemble's European tour, marking the memory of the great French composer. The tour started on November 4th in Luxembourg and will close on November 22nd in Paris. The productions were created at the music theatre in the city of Caen in cooperation with Centre de musique baroque de Versailles. The productions were choreographed by Françoise Denieau, a specialist in baroque and modern dance. Sophie Daneman, the stage director, combines the careers of a singer and a director successfully. Alain Blanchot, a specialist in historic costumes, designed the costumes for the productions. American Ballet Theatre announced the program for the spring season-2015 American Ballet Theatre announced the program for the spring season-2015, which will be presented at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The joined performance of David Hallberg, ABT's and Bolshoi's premiere dancer, and Natalia Osipova, the Royal Ballet's prima ballerina, will become the highlight of the season. They will dance in "La Bayadere", "Romeo and Juliette" and the new production of "Sleeping Beauty", created by Alexei Ratmansky. The ABT, which celebrates its 75th anniversary, invited famous stars to participate in its performances as guest stars.
