For example, two Japanese artists won the prestigious Prix de Lausanne in 2014. A tale of contrasts The spectacular opera "The Story of Kai and Gerda" will premiere at the Bolshoi Theatre on November 28th. Photo: the Bolshoi Theatre's Press Office The spectacular opera "The Story of Kai and Gerda" will premiere at the Bolshoi Theatre on November 28th. Productions to music by modern composers are not staged often in Russia; however, music of Sergei Banevich has already become classic at the Mariinsky Theatre. This time his name will appear on the Bolshoi's New Y ear playbill. The director Dmitry Belyanushkin tried to make this production dynamic and exciting. What else can be done in order to keep the attention of a child that is used to watching cartoons all the time? "There are some lyrical moments as well, but if Gerda gets into the hands of robbers, it has to be scary". The legendary Valery Levental designed the set for the production. The Bolshoi Theatre has never failed to address its young audience The opera for children "The Story of Kai and Gerda" will premiere on the Bolshoi Theatre Historic Stage on November 28th. This project has brought together very young people and very experienced ones as well. The music was written by Sergei Banevich; Dmitry Belyanushkin is the stage director, and the conductor Anton Grishanin is responsible for the music constituent of the production. The legendary set designer and a People's Artist of the USSR Valery Levental created the set. The cast will star both experienced singers and beginners: there will be participants of the Bolshoi Theatre Young Artists Opera Program, representatives of various generations of the Bolshoi's stars, and guest artists as well. The culture reporter Grigory Zaslavsky talked to Dmitry Belyanushkin and Anton Grishanin in the program "Culture Question" on the radio "Vesti FM"; they discussed the working process, peculiar features of music productions for children and possible reactions that young viewers can have as they watch this particular opera. Makvala Kasrashvili gave a lesson at the Elena Obraztsova School of Vocal Arts The Elena Obraztsova School of Vocal Arts in Moscow has opened again. Makvala Kasrashvili, an outstanding singer, who is the director of the Bolshoi Theatre Opera Company collectives, gave the first lesson. She considers: "As young singers begin their studies, it is very important that they meet with experienced masters that can share their experience, knowledge, technique and vocal skills. The earlier they know such things, the easier it will be for them to develop; they will also be able to develop faster and to become real masters of the opera stage. This is why it is so important for young singers; I can see that they are very interested in it". When Makvala Kasrashvili was a student at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, she was invited to join the Bolshoi Theatre Company, where she has sung more than 30 parts in different productions. Thanks to the wonderful vocal school the singer went through, she continues to perform today. At the same time, she devotes much time and energy to working with young singers. She is convinced that a beautiful voice is only one of the components of a successful career. The first task of both a teacher and a student is to realize what the possibilities of this voice are. Only later it is possible to work on technique, style, expression and ability to create a colorful image on the stage. Each performer has his or her own methods and technique. For 10 days the young singers will have a chance to learn from representatives of several schools. The Metropolitan Opera soloist Olga Makarina will give a lesson as well. The concert of Elena Obraztsova at the Kremlin has been cancelled due to the fact that the singer needs rehabilitation after her illness. E. Obraztsova had pneumonia in summer T ASS was informed by the Elena Obraztsova Cultural Center in Saint Petersburg that the concert of the People's Artist of the USSR at the State Kremlin Palace, which had been scheduled for December 11th, was cancelled due to the fact that the opera singer needed rehabilitation after her illness. Irina Chernova, the director of the Cultural Center, told TASS: "Elena Obraztsova had pneumonia in summer, and doctors recommended her to devote more time to rehabilitation and rest. Besides, she was very stressed because of the preparation for the Opera Ball, which took place at the Bolshoi Theatre on October 28th and starred Anna Netrebko, Jose Cura and other singers. She was very emotional about this concert, because she was the main inspiration, the main organizer and the main participant of this concert". According to Chernova, Elena Obraztsova is now at a resort in the south of Germany, because the warm climate suits her condition best. It is planned that the singer will return to Russia some time near spring. The director of the Elena Obraztsova Cultural Center continued: "Obraztsova asked not to cancel the concert at the Kremlin, and we are ready to reschedule it. She would like to perform with these artists, and at first she asked to have this concert without her, but this is impossible, because the scenario and all numbers of the show have been centered around Elena Obraztsova". Joseph Kobzon, Alla Pugacheva, Mykhailo Zhvanetskyi, Valentin Gaft, Alexander Kogan and many other artists had been invited to participate in this concert. According to Irina Chernova, the Elena Obraztsova Foundation asks to reschedule the concert that was supposed to take place on December 11th. A dif ferent date of the concert will be negotiated with the Vladimir Vinokur Foundation, which is the main organizer of the show. Mass media about the Theatre Newsletter

IT AR-T ASS/Gennady Khamel'yanin Irina Chernova also mentioned that at the moment Elena Obraztsova was engaged in negotiations with the members of the jury for the 10th Elena Obraztsova International Competition of Young Opera Singers that will take place in Saint Petersburg from August 22nd till August 29th 2015. Diana Vishneva introduces dance to Context It looks like the Festival "Diana Vishneva. Context" will turn the last week of November into the High Modern Ballet Week that will attract a significant part of Moscow. Grigory Sysoev/RIA Novosti .ria.ru This will be Vishneva's second Moscow festival. It was first organized a year ago, but became quite an event at once. The ballerina, who has an image as searching, restless and absolutely unpredictable when it comes to her professional ambitions, has already become a brand herself. For the first festival she invited companies that were known very little and placed her bets on young choreographers. Even though Moscow is a city that recognizes only first class stars, the performances were sold out; the audience trusted Vishneva, who approved of this strange, not adjusted art. This time there will be enough that is extreme as well; the program has a lot of names that are not very familiar or not familiar at all, and the festival was organized in order to allow the general public to discover those names. There also will be safe-bet performances of Netherlands Dance Theatre (NDT) II, the famous company's youth group. Although it stars young artists (the oldest ones are 22 years old), one should not be deceived by this fact; the competition in order to get into this company is as great as for the "adult" one, and world premieres are staged by the same choreographers. This time "the young Dutch" will bring pieces by Paul Lightfoot and Sol LeГіn, today's leaders of the NDT. Diana Vishneva together with her partner Andrei Merkuriev from the Bolshoi Theatre will perform together with them in the production "Subject to Change", which has become the breathtaking finale of one of her solo programs. The German company "Gauthier Dance" will present a whole spectrum of choreographic names. Wonderful "Six Dances" by Kilian is only the icing on the cake of their gourmand program that also includes pieces by Itzik Galili, Cayetano Soto, Roberto Scafati, Alejandro Cerrudo and the head of the company Eric Gauthier. Naturally, V ishneva will be in the focus of attention again; she will perform "The Old Man and the Sea" by Van Manen, another modern classics piece. As for unpredictable performances, there will be the Moscow debut of the American Ate9 Dance Company, founded by Danielle Agami, who had been dancing at the Batsheva Dance Company, headed by Ohad Naharin, for many years, and is now combining the rich traditions of American and Israeli dance. Danielle Agami with her experience of mastering Gaga style, will be one of those who will give master-classes during the festival (together with Angelin Preljoçaj, Nanning Linning and Eric Gauthier). But Vishneva's idea is particularly interesting, because she suggests that the dancers not only dance; for example, the program includes a master-class on stage make-up by Elena Krygina. There will be lectures and round tables almost every day; journalists and art historians will try to understand what modern ballet and dance in the 20th and the 21st centuries are. The gala concert should become a spectacular finale of the Festival; this gala will provide the audience with an opportunity to evaluate works of Konstantin Keikhel and Vladimir Varnava, who were granted a chance to create their own productions according to the results of the previous festival, as well as the performance of the Ballet Preljoçaj, which the Moscow audience loves so much, the Dutch dancer Nanning Linning and her company and, of course, Diana Vishneva again. Gimadieva said: "I am very grateful, first to the program of young singers of the Bolshoi Theatre for giving me this opportunity to have great teachers and coaches. At the Bolshoi they also have very good coaches who help with everything. The dancers of the Bolshoi love ballets with beautiful roles, such as Ivan the Terrible and Don Quixote." The interview is also re-published in the Ismeme Brown blog.
